New Funding for St Albans Road cycle lane

27 April 2013

Ian BrandonEND TO CYCLING ON THE PAVEMENT

Cllr Ian Brandon has secured funding for a cycle lane to be put on St Albans Road. The first part on the section near Station Road will occur this financial year, with the rest of St Albans Road up to the Dome Roundabout should be delivered in 2014/15.

“This will end the excuse of cycling on the pavements because it is too dangerous. We arranged police officers to ticket cyclists near Watford Junction early this year but they are already stretched. A cycle line will not only make cyclists feel safer but should reduce the amount of cyclists who think it is ok to cycle on the footway.”

And in other news...

KFC license changed

Green councillors Ian Brandon and Steve Rackett supported the review of KFC on St Albans Road. KFC now had to collect litter more frequently and later at night. The noise and smell from KFC should also be reduced as the cabinet at the back of the takeaway has to be kept shut.

Cllr Steve Rackett said “This isn’t the reduction in hours we wanted. But at least KFC has tougher rules to adhere to. If residents continue to experience a problem, please let us know or call 101 or Watford Council.”

Cllr Ian Brandon said: “Our last newsletter told you about a change to licensing policy in Watford. We want the licensing policy to reflect your views that there needs to be a restriction on the licensed premises on St Albans Road. Make sure you write to the Licensing team with your views.”

Attempt to turn Verulam Pub into flats and shops

A planning application was submitted in the middle of March to turn the Verulam pub into flats and houses. Residents contacted us complaining about the traffic this would bring, the lack of parking and the lack of need for more shops. A number of residents also felt they should have been consulted but only found out by word of mouth. We contacted Watford council and officers expressing our and residents view. Officers have also expressed reservations about the application and we are hopeful the application will be rejected without going to a committee. We will keep residents informed of any further developments.
