Election 2013 North Watford Update

25 April 2013

Support for St Albans Road traders

Green Councillors have been able to get initial support from Watford Borough Council to help St Albans Road traders after a question was posed by Cllr Steve Racket to the Mayor at the last full council meeting.

Ian BrandonCouncillor Ian Brandon (left) says “We have secured support for a traders association. Once formed, we will push the council to support the traders in revitalising the area so they can attract more business.
Green Party Councillor Steve Rackett said “Although St Albans Road shops are the most occupied in years, many traders are struggling to make ends meet. We got the Buckingham Road area updated and we are pushing for the rest of the road to get similar treatment.”

STREET LIGHT FIASCO CONTINUES

A few weeks ago, many lights around Watford went off due to the part night lighting becoming faulty again, something the Tories put in place despite no consultation. Cllr Brandon has ensured repairing these faults will not be at a cost to residents. A review of the scheme will be occurring in the summer.

COUNCILLOR’S REPORT

•    Cllr Ian Brandon has arranged Foxhill and Brush Rise pavements to be repaired. We are awaiting a date for this work but it will be sometime during 2013 or early 2014.
•    The Bill Everett Centre has recently been bid for by a swimming club which may mean the centre is saved. If this does not go ahead, Cllr Brandon has been pushing for this site to be used for a school rather than more flats!
•    Cllr Ian Brandon has funded a series of pavement and tree repairs around North Watford, particularly around Woodside and Chestnut Walk starting in April. This will mean no more roots bringing up pavements. You will receive a letter from Hertfordshire County Council if a tree near you is being affected.

BEECHFIELD SCHOOL NEARS COMPLETION

Although the works have been disturbing to residents and pupils alike, the school expansion is nearing completion. A new drop off facility at the front of the school and double yellow lines on the corners of Dell Road and Elm Grove will mean they and residents on Gammons Lane should have less school parking issues.

Cllr Brandon has also secured Sussex Road to be an ‘emergency access’ only and trees on the school site will not only be replaced, but there will be more than originally.

HAREBREAKS AND MOSQUE CROSSINGS STEP CLOSER

Cllr Ian Brandon has secured funding to look into a pedestrian crossing on The Harebreaks and the A41 near the North Watford Mosque.

He said “The A41 on North Western Avenue has no crossing other than on the Dome Roundabout. Many residents want to cross near the Mosque especially with the new Leggatts Green development. The Harebreaks also needs a crossing for pupils going to school.”
